Calling all humans that have periods, and those that want to learn more about periods! The team at Vevolution are here to give you ALL the details, from natural pain relief, to wonderful charities you can support.

Statistics *

  • 48% of girls in the UK ages between 14 and 21 are embarrassed by their periods.

  • 40% of all UK girls have had to use toilet roll because they can’t afford proper sanitary products.

  • Almost 70% of girls in the UK aren’t allowed to go to the toilet during school lesson time.

These stats tell us that we still have a while to go in terms of normalising periods. As we are hosting an event for International Women’s Day next week (She Loves Plants), we have a duty to speak up about menstruation, educate as many people as we can, and get everyone thinking more #periodpositive.

We also want to remind you, although fabulous companies are working hard to make sustainable products more accessible to the masses, the reality is that not everybody has the privilege to just switch to new options straight away. Please don’t feel as if this blog post is pressuring you into using these products, they are just some really great suggestions for when you decide that you do want to make the change.

The OrganiCup promises 12 hours of leak-free super-freedom. They are an award-winning menstrual cup that is chemical free! Menstrual cups are great options for those who want to switch from using tampons, for something you can use for longer.

Period Underwear

We are so proud to have WUKA founder, Ruby Raut, speaking at She Loves Plants on the 10th of March. WUKA offers threee different pairs of underwear; WUKA Heavy can be worn for around 8 hours, WUKA Light can hold 1 tampons worth blood (at least), and WUKA Tween can hold 4 tampons worth of blood.

Organic Pads/Tampons

The vagina is one of the most absorbent parts of the body, and so the chemicals found in regular tampons are likely causing some form of long term harm. TOTM tampons are biodegradable, and organic cotton produced up to 94% less greenhouse gas emissions than conventional cotton. Choosing organic is a great idea if you want to start having a more natural and sustainable period.

Reusable Pads/Tampon Applicators

She Loves Plants has yet another fantastic, sustainable period brand on the line-up! Celia Pool, co-founder of DAME, will be speaking at our event for International Women’s Day. This brand created the first reusable tampon applicator, which is packaged in the most beautiful tin box. Tampon applicators aren’t recyclable, and billions of them get thrown away each year. It is fantastic that this brand has considered that some people aren’t able to purchase tampons without applicators, and thus created a sustainable option for them.

Subscription Box For Sustainable Periods

Featured in one of Vogue’s best beauty boxes 2018, Freda sell customised chemical-free tampons and natural pads, as well as customised subscription boxes. Realising you’ve run out of sanitary products has probably happened to all of us at some point, so a subscription box is super handy in that respect (as well as the fact it’s just lovely to receive a little gift box every month).
