Making the compassionate decision to shop cruelty-free does not mean that you should have to sacrifice on style and luxury. It may seem overwhelming at first, and you might not know where to start, but we can assure you that luxury ethical brands are out there. There are a growing number of vegan brands in the world, to accommodate the growing number of people that want to shop ethically.
In light of London Fashion Week being upon us, we have decided to explore some of the brands making cruelty-free fashionable…
In founder, Vanita Badlani Bagri’s, words LaBante was “born out of a combined love of animals, fashion and the wider planet.” The company’s mission is clear, to create elegant fashion items, without harm - and they do just that. LaBante bags are made ethically using recycled plastic bottles; so far the company has saved roughly 10 million bottles from hitting landfills – which is a huge achievement! They manufacture all types of bags, from practical (yet classy) cross body ones, to opulent golden clutches.
Laura Way founded this company when she discovered the suffering that animals endured simply for fashion. She acknowledges that finding accessories that are stylish but cruelty-free isn’t always easy, and this was one of her motivations to create Votch. These award-winning vegan watches are environmentally friendly too, as they are PFC-Free, and use recycled content, just to name a couple of things! In addition to all of that, Laura believes that giving back is important too; every three months Votch partners with a different charity that they donate 10% of their profits to. We are so proud that Laura, the founder of Votch, will be joining us at Vevolution Festival this November!
Mashu is an accessories label specialising in unique handbags, which are designed in London and made by talented artisans in Greece. We highly recommend any art appreciators out there to have a look at this brand, as their designs are strongly inspired by art deco and contemporary architecture. Another feature that makes this brand stand out from the crowd is their bespoke handles that certainly make a statement. All materials involved manufacturing the bags are 100% recyclable, and they use premium sustainable materials. Like the other brands, their mission is to create beautiful items that do not harm animals, humans and the planet.
Siblings, Komi and Meg Vora, created Delikate Rayne to show the world that vegan attire can be just as fashionable as conventional fashion. They feel that “cruelty-free luxury is the best kind”, and we totally agree. Delikate Rayne create cruelty-free contemporary luxury clothing for women, and we feel that their pieces are the absolute definition of fashion forward. Their collections are filled with cruelty-free satin, vegan leather, asymmetrical blouses and stylish tees. We can’t wait for Delikate Rayne to join us this November at Vevolution Festival!
Matt and Nat
Matt and Nat (Short for MAT(T)erial and NATure) is a Montreal-based brand, living by the simple motto of “Live beautifully”. Although they sell menswear, accessories, and footwear too, they are most well known for their vegan bags made with sustainable materials (like cork and rubber) and lined with 100% recycled plastic bottles. Their products are affordable and minimal, which makes them appeal to a wide audience. Matt and Nat have grown massively in the past few years, leading them to have stockists all over the globe, including Japan and New Zealand.
Featured in Vogue, Elle, and countless more, founder Natalie Dean is no stranger to high fashion. Her company, Beyond Skin, is a vegan leather footwear brand that sells boots, flats, sandals and more. These stunning shoes have attracted the attention of A-Listers such as Miley Cyrus and Natalie Portman who are fans of the high quality, luxurious shoes. In a nutshell, Beyond Skin is “passionately doing what we can to trade in a manner that is kind to our fellow humans, animals and wherever possible our precious planet.” Watch this space, because Beyond Skin is releasing a menswear collection soon, and also even considering delving into accessories too! Natalie Dean is another inspiring entrepreneur to be attending Vevolution Festival in November.
British designer, Stella McCartney, has been deemed the Queen of luxury vegan fashion for a long time. Her brand has been going for almost two decades now! Back in 2001, when she launched her brand, there were a lot more people that doubted vegan fashion; it’s incredibly inspiring to see that she never turned her back on what she believes in. Her designs are distinctive, stylish and worn by an equal amount of vegans and non-vegans!
