Firstly Happy International Women’s Day to all you amazing badass human and non-human animal friends out there!
Even though there has been progress and more awareness, women are still fighting for equality all around the world. Today is all about celebrating the social, political, and economic achievements of women but most importantly today is a day where the world focuses its attention on areas where inequality still exists.
I have always had a powerful connection to the empowerment of women and have been fortunate enough to work alongside some incredible projects, organisations and groups that are constantly striving and working towards making a more equal world.
Becoming a vegan was a next level of feminism for me when I realised it was not only enough to focus on women’s suffrage while ignoring all my non-human animal sisters who are also suffering with no rights, equality or voice.
A priority for me with all our Vevolution events, blogs, content and just about everything is to ensure that all voices are represented. But an area that I felt I wanted to focus more closely on was all the incredible plant-powered women I had either met in person or online. I have met so many inspiring women who are dedicating themselves and their work to creating a better world.
So I've joined forces with some amazing women that I am lucky enough have in my life to create Badass Vegan Women which we have launched today! There is something really special about bringing amazing women together online and in person at events for inspiration, empowerment and to celebrate how badass they are. We all wanted to create a platform that recognises and celebrates all the achievements of plant-powered women and for it to provide lots of opportunities for friendships, collaborations and most importantly empowerment.
In partnership with Badass Vegan Women and to celebrate International Women's Day we have had the pleasure of interviewing some of the most inspiring women in the vegan and plant-based community including, Katrina Fox, Kathy Devine, Laura Callan Editor + Founder of Bright Zine, Leah Garwood-Gowers of the Hardihood and Amber Fraser of Brave Foods.
With our next event focusing on Entrepreneurs you will notice a business angle that delves into how and why these women have dedicated their life and work to making the world a better place.
Be sure to keep checking our blog throughout the day so you can read their stories, feel inspired and most importantly empowered. We encourage all people not just women to engage in today as IWD is not just for women - we want to also say thank you to all the people who are fighting for equality.
I will leave you with all the other amazing platforms, projects and people who are celebrating and empowering plant-powered women and our non-human animal sisters!
Women Of The Past + Present:
“I am not free while any woman is unfree, even when her shackles are very different from my own.”
“Being a woman, that’s everything to me. Without women there is no life. I’m empowered as well, because I really feel like I hold something that’s the secret in all of life and the power of it.”
Carol J Adams
“Dominance functions best in a culture of disconnections and fragmentation. Feminism recognizes connections. Imagine”
“To identify with others is to see something of yourself in them and to see something of them in yourself--even if the only thing you identify with is the desire to be free from suffering.”
“Never underestimate a vegan hippie chick with a race car”
Dr. A. Breeze Harper
“All social inequities are linked. Comprehensive systemic change will happen only if we are aware of these connections and work to bring an end to all inequalities—not just our favorites or the ones that most directly affect our part of the universe.”
