At Vevolution Festival 2017, we held Pitch + Plant the UK's very first plant-based investment pitching event. We created the competition in collaboration with our sponsor BRAN Investments who offered up £1500 in prize money + mentorship to the winner and a runners up prize of £500.
We received 29 application from plant-based entrepreneurs from all across the UK and the competition was fierce. After much consideration 6 finalists were selected by BRAN Investments to come and pitch the plant-based dragons at Vevolution.
The finalists selected to pitch on the day were: Optiat, Mylkman, La Cremerie, One Small Shop, Dust and Nutkin. You can read about all the finalists in this earlier blog.
They were confronted by a rather friendly bunch of plant-based dragons comprising of Laura Way (Votch), Derek Sarno (Wicked Healthy and Tesco) Ram Goyal (BRAN Investments), Loui Blake (Tribe Creative) and Jonathan Petrides (allplants).
What struck the dragons was that the standard of all the finalists pitches was incredibly high. With them describing all of them as a credit of plant-based entrepreneurs everywhere. One judge remarked that the businesses had done brilliantly to gain the traction they had in relatively short time frames.
After much debate it was the beauty brand Optiat who use reclaimed coffee granules who walked away with the winners prize of £1500 and mentorship from BRAN Investments. East London based Mylkman who produce nut milks in glass bottles walked away with the runner up prize of £500.
