NANABAR coming to London

We recently took some time to speak to Justin from NANABAR an exciting new vegan banana ice-cream bar coming to London at the end of 2016. We're big fans of bananas over here at Vevolution so safe to say we are pretty hyped about it.

Tell us a bit about yourself?

Not too sure where to start with this one - I'm a big believer in living without labels so that makes this question a little hard to answer, but I guess I could sum up the last 12 months to give you an idea of where I'm at now!

On the 27th of September 2015, I made the decision to get rid of the majority of my "things" and leave for South America. I headed to Mérida, Venezuela on the 31st of October to teach English. The course was 6 weeks but I fell in love with Mérida - the people, the city, the weather, the Andes. I had a lot of time to think and consequently I had a number of realisations. I realised what I've always been good at - communication; and what I'm truly passionate about - health. I also realised that teaching English isn't for me...

After 6 months in Mérida I left for Medellín, Colombia (also in the Andes!) It was there that I decided to combine what I'm good at and what I'm passionate about - and to launch a brand. After exploring the idea of "gourmet trail mix" I stumbled across nice cream on Instagram - I started experimenting and the rest is history!

What's your favourite NANABAR flavour?

The Pecan Pie is to die for. It tastes just like the real thing, but better (and it's good for you!)

Why should be choose banana ice cream over other vegan ice cream options?

NANABAR is for anybody that believes in health, happiness and honesty. We're "vegan" by default - but definitely advocates of a plant based diet - for the planet (and all of its species.)

Where are you hoping to open NANABAR?

We're just waiting to secure capital to open the first location - we're confident we'll be open by the end of the year - and a Christmas launch will mean Christmas specials - so get excited ;)

What is the record amount of bananas you have eaten in one day?

I'd say 10 is the most I've eaten in a day, but I eat nice cream (and lots of it) at least 5 times a week - and I'll usually have a banana or two during the day.

I've heard eating nothing but bananas for a few days or even a week or two can actually be quite beneficial - sort of like a detox - perhaps I'll try that! I guess then I'd be eating at least 30 a day...

Where can people find out more about NANABAR?

Our crowdfunding video is still live over at - that'll give you a good idea of what we're about! And we'll be updating our website soon with more info :)
